Yoga Heals or Hurts?
There are so many articles and so much information about how yoga benefits our health. Even some doctors recommend yoga practice to their patents. I have a client who was referred by a lawyer to try yoga to manage their stress levels. There are no doubts about how yoga benefits our health. Just changing your breathing patterns your body gets more oxygen so in return you feel more relaxed and you even sleep better( my students stated that even after first yoga class, they were able to sleep better!) , at the same time you feel more energized all while improving your immune systems and your metabolism. By practicing physical yoga postures you can increase your flexibility, strength, help release body pains, and lose weight. Meditation also helps to clear your mind.
But sometimes we hear stories about accidents that happened in yoga class, or if you look online you can easily find plenty of information about how yoga practice is not safe, or not beneficial.Yoga is like a sharp knife the sharper knife is the more delicate pieces you can cut, but if you don’t know how to use it you can hurt yourself.
If you have been hurt in a yoga class I would put the question about the incompetence of your yoga instructor. There is not a secret that some “yoga instructors” watched yoga DVDs and now they are teaching people. In my four years of teaching the yoga experience, I have had no accidents that hurt my students, but I meet a lot of people who were injured in a yoga class by an incompetent ” yoga instructor”.
The other reason why yoga class doesn’t feel beneficial to you is that you have special body limitations, issues, pains, and problems. But tell me: when you go to the doctor does he work with a group of people, or only with you? The same goes for yoga if you are healthy and seeking just general stretching, relaxation or to get more energized group yoga lead by a professional experienced yoga instructor will work for you perfectly. But if you have pains, limitations in your body or breathing problems you need special attention, a special program designed just for your needs. This is called YOGA THERAPY.
